Since 2010, the New Wave category has given independent filmmakers the opportunity to showcase their work and the chance to have more funding for future film projects. This year, aside from the animated and short film entries being shown in cinemas, they were also released through the HOOQ app. It was the first time in the history of MMFF that entries were shown simultaneously online and in theaters.
Users will soon be able to watch other 2015 MMFF finalists and winners on HOOQ. They can also choose from close to a hundred past winners and finalists in its huge library of local films and TV shows, made available for streaming and download on multiple devices.

The film premiered at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Best Director Award,[4] the first Filipino film to do so, although the film was notorious for being critically panned by critics including Roger Ebert.[3] The film was included in the 2009 Cinemalaya Film Festival.
The review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes offers a score of 71% from seven critics, and a rating average of 5.9 out of 10.[2] Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times had been one of the film's most notable detractors, writing: "Here is a film that forces me to apologize to Vincent Gallo for calling The Brown Bunny the worst film in the history of the Cannes Film Festival."[5]
According to PEP contributor Mell Navarro, the proposed project is titled Nilalang, and is an action/suspense/thriller movie. The film will be produced by Haunted Tower Pictures, Inc., which recently produced Binhi (The Seed), which starred Mercedes Cabral and Joem Bascon, among others.
Binti is a really good storical film from Tanzania that shows women's lives in different aspects, also the acting of all the 4 ladies is extraordinary. A great attempt in bongo land (First wonderful thing that Tz has actually showed by making a really great and well directed film), what doesn't go with the film is it's Pace which is actually slow though keeps u hooked jst little bit thy would have improved the pace of the film. Nevertheless a great attempt for Tz Reviewed by RachelMary28 / 10Wonderful gemI really enjoyed this film. Its refreshing to watch something with a bit of heart and head and no flashy effects or silliness. It's a simple and honest film that isn't pretending to be something it isn't. I thought the connections between each story, and the underlying narrative about the role and impact the male characters were playing in each woman's life, interesting and engaging.Sometimes scenes were a little overwrought and it might have had better pace if the women's stories had been interwoven rather than linear. Maybe. And there were a couple of issues with continuity that were somewhat distracting. But an excellent movie in many ways.
The one drawback to the film is that there are unresolved plot lines when the film ends so hopefully, we will get to see Maria take out the garbage in another entry and I would welcome this film in becoming a franchise in itself.
