THREE + ONE is a system which applies modular and structuralist design principles to 4.0 production methods in order to build furniture and architectural-scale structures for social spaces. With a minimal joint, a scalable, plug-in connector, THREE+ONE holds convertibility and a straightforward construction approach as its core values. It provides a platform for collaborative building, lending itself to use in multiple contexts such as exhibition design, academic research, public spaces and private interior. THREE+ONE has been applied in projects for institutions such as Atelier LUMA research lab, Arles; Offprint Projects, Milan; New Museum, New York; C/O Berlin; Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin; Open Design School, Matera; Design at Large, Design Miami/Basel and Istanbul Design Biennial

Writer, DJ, and sound artist Jean-Yves Leloup has followed the evolution of electronic music from its first appearance in Europe at the end of the eighties. A fortunate witness to the electronic scene, he is also interested in all questions relative to contemporary art and digital technologies.
In the essay Postproduction. Culture as Screenplay: How Art Reprograms the World, French writer and curator Nicolas Bourriaud discusses how, since the early nineties, an ever increasing number of artworks have been created on the basis of preexisting works; more and more artists interpret, reproduce, re-exhibit, or use works made by others or available cultural products.

Swarm (2011) is a monograph with photographs of migrating birds and essays by Peter Pfrunder, Gordon H. Orians, Deborah M. Gordon, and Wallace Stevens.[10] It investigates and celebrates flight, considering how a system without a hierarchy nor centralized control works.[2][10] Sequenced photographs of birds close-up, in functioning groups, and in relation to their surrounding landscape reveal how this complex system operates.[11][12]

At Design Miami 2022, Fendi introduces Triclinium by Lukas Gschwandtner, a reflective exhibition that sees the Vienna-based artist propose a triclinium formation of chaise lounge chairs as part of his ongoing case-study series, Pillow Portraits.
The design of experiments included the design and build of a pressure test firing system. A pressure transducer was selected and wired to the microcontroller then custom C++ code was written and validated. We recorded the data with millisecond precision and completed the statistical analysis to find the fastest trigger mechanism. My team succeeded where others did not because of my broad interdisciplinary research and leadership experience, allowing me to innovate, adapt, and iterate faster.
The enthusiasm. Hands down. There is never a negative day. It is always a good day to be working with clay and I think that was the greatest thing about working with him, was just the excitement and drive to exist in this world and exist as an artist and approach every day like it was the last day you had to make and you had to make as much as you can today.
The system was initially made using steel, but while Wegwerth was experiencing the coronavirus lockdown in Germany he immersed himself in nature and used his free time to reconsider how it could be made.
Lukas Wegwerth: Interestingly, in some ways, the current situation has favoured our business model. The Three+One system we developed was very popular with museums and institutions, and obviously we have less discussion with them now that they are closed. But we are getting many more enquiries from individuals for domestic use.
Lukas Wegwerth: First of all, we suddenly had more time than expected to work on the project. The idea of introducing wood into a system that was previously focused on steel is not completely new. We were already thinking about how and when to do it: it was already our goal to reduce the amount of steel in the system, and when the lockdown took effect, the timing felt right.
The new generation of prototypes emerged from that point. I still think steel is a relevant material because it allows long cycles of use and re-use, therefore, from a structural point of view, it's quite a good material. We are moving towards the approach to split the elements of the system into the connector, which needs more information and less material, and the other elements, which have a greater mass but can be produced in a low-tech way.
